Story
This is a cooperate charity event in aid of Alzheimer's research UK. Renewable Energy Systems are matching the money we raise up to £500 per person.
Alzheimer's research UK fund research into Alzheimer’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, vascular dementia and frontotemporal dementia, as well as some of the rarer causes. This work fits into three themes that will drive us towards a cure - treat, diagnose and prevent.
A close story that hits home for RES employee Tony Barker. His mother has been diagnosed with dementia. Her diagnosis has excelled in recent times and has fully consumed her to the point where she us unable to remember or recognise her own family. The travesty that the disease has inflicted on his relationship with his mother has been very traumatic. Tony Barker is hopeful that the no other families will have to suffer in the future. Tony Barker is also participating in the event. At just over 50 years old Tony barker plans to complete the 10 miles endurance event and with the help and support of his colleagues aims to raise £2000. The donation helps to support the cutting-edge research on the treatment of the disease.
Today, there are few treatments options for people with dementia. Existing treatments are limited in their scope and don’t work for all forms of dementia. But donations like yours are helping change this.
Current Alzheimer’s treatments in the UK only help to manage the symptoms, but thanks to research there is a new generation of treatments on the horizon that tackle the underlying disease.
